This depends entirely on your municipality. Some of the areas we deliver to currently allow backyard chickens with limits - for example, Newmarket permits up to 3 hens, Kitchener and Waterloo allow up to 4, Kingston allows up to 4, and Guelph allows up to 10. Many municipalities require a permit or registration before you can keep chickens, and rules can change as councils review these bylaws. Not every municipality in our delivery area currently permits backyard chickens, so we always recommend confirming directly with your local municipality before ordering.

In Ontario, structures under approximately 15 square metres (approximately 161 square feet) do not require a building permit, but larger coops may require approval. Regulations can vary by municipality, so we recommend checking with your local building department, and some areas also have specific bylaws around keeping backyard chickens - worth confirming before you order.

With proper care and maintenance, a well-built chicken coop can last 20 years or more. Our coops are built using solid pine lumber, metal roofing, and heavy timber framing designed to handle Ontario weather conditions.

We deliver our coops using a 22-foot flatbed trailer and pickup truck. We typically require at least 14 feet of width and 14 feet of height clearance, along with enough space for the truck to maneuver. Please ensure tree branches are trimmed and obstacles removed. Our coops are built with tight soffits, thick flooring, and solid pine construction, so predators can't get in through gaps in the structure or dig up through the floor. Secure outdoor access hatches add another layer of protection.

Coop size should be matched to flock size for your birds' comfort and health. As a general guide, our 8x6 coop comfortably holds up to approximately 15 chickens, while our 8x10 holds up to approximately 30. We're happy to talk through your flock size when you're deciding which size fits best.

We can do some customization of our coops, and we're also able to transform one of our shed designs into a coop. Standard features include a man door, a chicken door, screened windows, nesting boxes, and a perch stand.

We deliver across Central Ontario and beyond, including Simcoe County, Muskoka and cottage country, Durham Region, Peterborough and the Kawarthas, and the Greater Golden Horseshoe area including Barrie, Orillia, Bracebridge, Uxbridge, and as far as Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo.
